Rockies Call Up RHP Collin McHugh

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Collin McHugh from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the active roster for McHugh, the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Mitchell Boggs. McHugh (#43) is scheduled to start Saturday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers (5:30 p.m. MDT on 850 KOA) at Coors Field.

McHugh, 26, has made 14 starts in the minor leagues this season, including three appearances and one start at the Major League level for the New York Mets. He began the season with Triple-A Las Vegas and made nine starts, going 3-2 with a 2.87 ERA (53.1 ip, 17 er) before making his season debut on May 18 at the Chicago Cubs. The Berry College product was acquired from the Mets on June 18 for outfielder Eric Young Jr. Since joining the Rockies organization he has gone 2-1 with a 2.40 ERA (30.0 ip, 8 er) in five starts. In 11 career Major League games, he’s made five starts and has yet to receive a win going 0-5 with a 8.26 ERA (28.1 ip, 26 er).

Boggs, 29, made two appearances for the Rockies after being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals on July 9. He began the season on the Cardinals’ Opening Day roster where he went 0-3 with two saves and an 11.05 ERA (14.2 ip, 20 er) in 18 games before being optioned to Triple-A Memphis. After being acquired by the Rockies, he was optioned to Double-A Tulsa where he made four appearances converting one save with a 1.50 ERA (6.0 ip, 2 h, 1 er). The Dalton, Georgia native has appeared in 234 career Major League games with 15 starts and has gone 13-15 with six saves and a 4.13 ERA (309.2 ip, 142 er).

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
